Meditations on a Tennis Court

They play tennis together once a week – they’ve been doing it since high school. The court is a quiet place, nestled in a small suburban subdivision, surrounded by trees. It is a little overgrown in places; cracks spread across the green surface, driven apart by the thirsty roots of invasive plants.   
 They arrive and stretch, joking and laughing. He takes a tennis ball from his bag and walks to the serving line. She jogs out to the other side of the net, bouncing on the balls of her feet, ready to meet the serve.   
 He tosses the ball into the air, swinging his racquet in a graceful arc to meet it. She lunges

familythe mother’s eyes are kind,  soft gaze of love tempered by  patience with her children.   
the father’s eyes are soft,  worn at the edges by experience,  with a solid center of hope.   
the young boy’s eyes are squeezed shut  by the expanse of his grin,  radiating pure joy.   
the young girl’s eyes are jealous slits  looking askance at her brother’s glee,  cold and hard as jewels.   
the family lives now only in  the picture and blue-grey memories  of the girl, the kind with  soft edges and muted voices.

Well, I've decided to check up here again now that I have my new lappy! <3 ... Maybe I should actually post something...

I haven't done much writing and drawing recently, though last month I finished my one act play, "Things Not Said." Various characters of mine have also been getting a major revamp as I deepen the world in which they live. I've changed one character's race to be slaves to another, which required an intriguing change to her personality. I'm excited. :D

Also, WALL-E is awesome and you should go see it.
